2. Finance and Economic Development Committee Presentation
On October 2nd, Dale Harley made a presentation with Marty White to FEDCO regarding LRFP IV and Comprehensive Asset Management Program. This is a precursor for the 2013 budget presentations.

The 2013 City Budget comes in with a 2.09% increase for urban homes and a 1.98% increase for rural homes and a further 2.5% increase for commercial properties. The total Capital Budget for 2013 is $478 million. These expenditures do not include spending on LRT or on water and sewer which will be tabled later.
Council will consider for approval 2013 budget recommendations received from all Committees of Council and relevant Boards at its regularly scheduled November 28 City Council meeting. The budget for services supported by the water/sewer rate will be tabled at a special Environment Committee meeting in January 2013
The next meeting for the Specifications Committee is scheduled for November 23rd at the City. Members’ input on specs would be appreciated by November 10.

5. Builder for a Day
The NCHCA Education committee, Jessica Steffler (Ontario Civil Construction Careers Institute), Dana Lewis (RWT), the Builder for a Day team, and delegates from the OCA (J.DeVries and P. McCarney) met to discuss the possibility of hosting a hand-on construction theme park here in Ottawa in either 2013 or 2104. The meeting was very well received by all; discussions remain pending.
6. College of Trades
Ontario College of Trades has surfaced. The Coalition & campaign against the Ontario College of Trades continues to grow beyond the construction sector.
Winter is fast approaching and theives are on the lookout for backhoes that are not marked . They are the most sought after equipment for theft this time of year as they are used for snow purposes. Also, if any members are interested in supporting the NCHCA efforts to re-instated our radio anti- theft campaign, please contact Steve Turner at 613.229.7418.

This is a nationally trademarked program that provides employers with an effective tool to assess their health and safety management system. It is a pre-qualification requirement for contractors working in and out of the province and on public and private-sector projects.
