2012 City Budget
The highlights are:
A 2.39% tax increase.
$835.7 million in capital spending. This is up from a forecasted expenditure of just $298 million from last year for 2012.
A big part of this year’s budget is the Ottawa on the Move initiative that will see $340 million spent to improve the transportation network, including $125 million in borrowed funds.
The largest part of Ottawa on the Move will focus on road resurfacing. The 2012 budget provides $133 million in road improvements over the next three years.
Tax spending on the renewal of roads is $75 million a year for the next three years for a total of $225 million. This is over twice the originally forecasted expenditure $107.2 million over the next three years.
To illustrate this point, instead of the three road resurfacing projects originally planned for 2012, the city will complete over 60 projects next year alone through Ottawa on the Move.
In addition to the $340 spent on “Ottawa on the Move” there will be a further $226 million spent on Transportation and $127 million on Transit capital.
Please log onto www.nchca.ca for further details, articles and press releases (Resource Center?Media Coverage) regarding the 2012 Budget.
