The City of Ottawa has started its public consultations into the 2018 City Budget. These are important consultations since the 2018 City Budget is an Election-Year Budget. It is important that industry members get out and attend as many events with Councillors as possible. Dale Harley, NCHCA Executive Director will be in attendance at all of these meetings and he can assist you in formulating questions and or positions for the Councillors. The following is a schedule of meetings:
The Citizen Budget tool (www.ottawa.citizenbudget.com ) is an interactive way to submit ideas on how you would like to see your property tax dollars spent. You must be a resident of the City of Ottawa to access the tool.
You and your staff can use the tool to provide feedback on City services, and to understand where your tax dollars go. You can also see how changes in spending would affect your tax bill.
Three easy steps:
Enter the amount of your current property value or use the current urban residential average of $403,867.
Give your input on service levels by moving the slider or keeping it where it is.
Provide comments on what changes, if any, you would make to current services.
Feedback can be submitted through Citizen Budget until November 8 when the Draft Budget will be tabled. A summary report of the feedback will be provided to City Council for consideration and shared prior to the approval of the 2018 Budget on December 13.
Please take the time to participate in the budget consultation process and stress the importance of investing in heavy civil infrastructure in Ottawa.
